This wonderful group of people, based in the Mid-Atlantic region, works their hearts out saving the abused, starved, neglected, and voiceless (literally). They specialize in American Cocker Spaniels, but have been known to take in the souls that others don't want to bother with. Please visit the www.cockeradoption.org. Even if you can't adopt right now, they are in desperate need of donations. With the new puppy mill law signed recently in PA, the puppy millers have been dumping their breeding stock in record numbers. These dogs all come with medical issues ranging from neutering to major surgery for a number of issues developed over a lifetime of pushing out litter after litter of puppies. They are starved, unclean, untrained, beaten, and scared. In conjunction with the already exploding number of surrenders due to a lousy economy, the burden has led to crippling debt and despairing hearts. Dogs are dying in record numbers right now, and while we can't save them all, we can save them one at a time
